seattle post news review of 'hvarf/heim'

the new release from iceland's sigur rós "hvarf/heim" is actually two eps: one ("hvarf," which translates "disappeared") collects lost songs, while the other ("heim," or "home") is composed of six live acoustic performances. the collection furthers their symphonic musings, offering steady, swirling and swelling cycles of deliberate, dark atmospheric meditations. their music, though fit for cathedrals, is equally breathtaking in headphones. the band has a knack for birthing raw emotions out of simple repetitions. just as easily, they can build enthralling and majestic rock marches that fall somewhere between heart-stopping and inspirational.
